I think that's the thing with Mr Baker, there is genuinely not another one like him out there.
He talks at the show about everyone in media being so serious and football shows being about people talking dryly about formations when the joy of football is in the absurdity and pain of it, he gets that perfectly.
He alluded to a second tour (he didn't really get past his mid teens in three and a half hours!), I can't wait and I really hope he does it, I could go watch this bloke every night for a year and you wouldn't hear a repetition from him.

I remember when he was on 606 and driving back having lost our first game and we were rotten and I couldnt think of a good thought in the world and the last thing I need to hear is that fucking 'wall cunt giving it large- and he opened up with " im taking calls from fans who saw their team today and Id like to hear at what point in the day you thought-
"ah well, thats the season done..."'
I fucking roared with laughter as he'd caught the moment perfectly and of course the whole show was full of stories of '...you think youve got it bad..."

I went to see the show in Cambridge. Funniest thing I’ve seen in years. It’s a crying shame the guys not on the radio apart from 5 Live. He’s a genuine bloke in a business where that sets him apart from all the others.
Years ago I got a video of outtakes from Badiel & Skinner's Fantasy Football League show. On it, Danny tells a great story which he knew would never be broadcast. Anyway I've found it on you-tube.

Agreed Sold but have to mention the time he and DK were talking about football rattles and the Scottish bloke rang in with his football team wooden bow tie. I was driving when I first heard that and I had to pull over as I had tears in my eyes laughing.
I wouldn't ever normally ring a radio show but I was on meself the other week with the story of my Granddad's 'being in the tanks' in WWII. Sorry, if you didn't hear it but I'm saving it for a book.

He made me laugh the other week. Him and his sidekick on the radio were talking about police 5 from back in the 70's. Baker said his old man used to sit there taking notes to see what was knocking around.
As a side note,when I lived in the East End,the George on the Isle of dogs was one of my locals. What used to be known as the 'snug' was called Ma .bakers who was Dan's nan. Absolute diamiondd of a woman by all accounts.

His 606 shows with Danny Kelly were an absolute god send back in the day.... many a time a long drive back from Manchester/Liverpool/Sheffield would breeze by listening to those two and the loons that used to ring them up... my fav by a country mile was things that you have smuggled into a football ground... the bloke who got stopped and searched by police who found his wifes (half full) breast pump was a corker... but the winner by a country mile was the Pompey fan who was a tree feller who was working near the ground and did not have time to get his chainsaw back to his van so managed to get it in under his jacket... Baker was in tears imagining that some sort of Portsmouth Chainsaw Massacre could have happened... great times.

I've got no time really fot any gibberish when I listen to the radio. One of my brothers has been banging on about Danny Baker for about as long as I can remember.
Being bored one Saturday morning last year whilst I was back in Lower South Warsaw I stuck his show on t'internet. I was hooked within minutes - the guys certainly got a style missing from modern "media types" - and despite being a great oracle and orator, he's clearly a good listener, too, which people always warm too.
When I get time I may well set up a podcast of his show to catch it , albeit a day late.
